Located on the Westerstraat in the Jordaan, is an Italian eatery and traiteur Al Ninèn. When you find yourself craving for smaller meals on hot summer days like today, a visit to the local traiteur isn’t a bad idea. A traiteur packs a whole shop of delicacies that will satisfy your instant food cravings, small or big. At Al Ninèn you’ll find a range of Italian food and products that you won’t find anywhere else. From olive oils to cookies, beverages and a beautiful selection of cheeses and meats – it’s little Italy right in the middle of Amsterdam.
We sample a ham and cheese platter with an array of dainty, salty treats. Even if your knowledge of Italian delicacies is limited to salamis and parmahams, the staff is ready to assist you and select a few of their best, award-winning meats. Our favorite: a truffle infused salami. Trust me, you need this in your life.
While Al Ninèn is best known for its pasta and tigelle, we decided to order a dish we had never had before: a melanzane alla parmigiana. The dish is an oven-baked layered aubergine with mozzarella, parmesan cheese and tomato sauce and it’s the perfect vegetarian alternative to a lasagne.
Of course you don’t leave a traiteur empty-handed. We went home with a mushroom risotto, one we’ll undoubtedly be feasting on soon.
Find Al Ninèn at Westerstraat 77H (and walk all the way to the back to enjoy your treats under the skylight!).
