With New Year’s around, I decided to clean up my closet the other day. It’s unimaginable, the amount of garments I have collected over the years. It’s not even that I buy a lot. I don’t spend unless I have to and I invest in clothing only where I think I can. The problem lies in my keeping. I hardly ever throw out my clothes. Unless a garment is in complete ruin, or I have outgrown the stretches of the fabric,
I will keep hold of my apparel in my closet like a most cherished treasure. Of course I will neglect to wear it for months and years to come. But somehow I feel like by storing my pieces a few more years, I will have given it a last honour before I decide it’s finally time to clear my closet of all unused pieces – a woman’s logic. The main reason I rid myself of my old clothes though, is so that I won’t feel guilty when I buy new clothes.
Like this exquisite H&M dress, which I was able to secure before it sold out. I’ll probably wear it on a night out on the town, with a clutch in one hand and an umbrella in the other. With my heels clacking on the pavement, I’ll yell “taxi!” After that, the dress will end up like all other dresses before it. Gone in the closet, until the closet is cleared to make room for a new dress, but of course properly displayed for years first.
We’ve been enjoying the sunny weather these last couple of days. You’d think these pictures were shot in a warm tropical place, with the sun shining all day and a clear blue sky when you look up. But it couldn’t be further from the truth. With the temperature dropping below zero now, I can’t face the cold without a jacket and layers of sweater. We shot this on the balcony when the sun was shining every so brightly. I was freezing but the rays of sunlight warming my skin made it somewhat bearable to continue shooting. I am considering discontinuing all outside shoots now. At least, until winter has passed.
