When a little spoon dripped in blue paint came in the mail the other day, there were several thoughts that came to mind. Was this a chocolate (albeit blue) covered spoon and was there a chocolate-filled jar that came with it? If it wasn’t chocolate, was there still a chocolate-filled jar that came with it?
Chocolate fiend that I am, I get excited about chocolate all too easily even when there seems to be no chocolate involved. But the blue spoon put a smile on my face nonetheless because the blue artifact was the key to an intimate dinner at The Bluespoon Restaurant in Amsterdam hosted by none other than the head chef. Bluespoon is now headed by chef Kasper Stiekema, a thirty-year-old chef who has previously trained at renowned restaurants like Ciel Blue, La Rive and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen. The young chef’s humble manner and charismatic introduction of himself made us all the more excited about the new menu. Kasper explains how he likes cooking with fresh seasonal produce. The menu is a reflection of his own culinary style, robust yet classic, but always with a Dutch twist. From the chef’s table, we could witness our whole meal being prepped from start to finish.
From a light ceviche to a beautiful duck and plum dish (such a perfect dish for fall) and lastly a lovely chocolate mousse dessert (there’s the chocolate!), it was a pure fall feast. Needless to say, we enjoyed a marvelous dinner that left us wanting for more.
