Sometimes an event takes place in Amsterdam and you know that you have to be there or you better have a damn good reason not to be. Your brother is getting married or your wife is having a baby, that sort of reason. This weekend, that event was the Burger Beer Battle 2015, brought to you by Oedipus Brewing and the Beef Chief. We devoured burgers, one after the other. And what better way to have your burger than with a cold drafted glass of beer. And I don’t even drink beer (wait what?).
The four breweries battling it out in this first round were: Oedipus Brewing (last year’s winner), De Prael, Rooie Dop, Van de Streek. I am no beer connoisseur so when asked what I thought of the beers I mostly answered ‘bitter’. But with my little to no beer-drinking-experience, I did like the very appropriately named Salty Dick by Oedipus Brewing and the bacon-infused beer by De Prael.
And definitely a winner all evening: the pickleback bar! Someone needs to make me a shot of whiskey with pineapple habanero pickle juice, asap! That stuff was mighty good.
