Staying in LA for a week is too short to discover all the different foods the city has to offer. When we were in LA last week, one of the restaurants we visited was Chaya in Venice. It’s closely located to Venice Beach. We were told that Chaya was one of the first restaurants ever to serve the tuna tartare. This is a dish that K and I make ourselves at home all the time because it has become such an iconic dish served in contemporary Japanese restaurants and we love it.
At Chaya, we sample different dishes. Of course we had to go with the tuna tartare – it was beautifully fresh and light and was served on crispy rice. We went with the Chaya classic bento as well. It featured a soy glazed black cod (I loved this) and the loveliest organic beet salad.
Our favorite though was the lobster roll topped with wagyu beef. This roll is such a unique combination of creamy flavors – I am still craving this!
