One of the restaurants I was exciting to try in New York, was Jason Atherton and Stephen Starr’s The Clocktower. We’ve been to Jason’s restaurants in Hong Kong (see our posts about 22 Ships and Aberdeen Str Social) before so we were curious to see what he’s serving in New York.
The Clocktower at the Edition Hotel is crowded when we walk in on a Wednesday for lunch. The interior is dark and has pictures of icons adorning the walls – it feels like an elegant pub in Midtown Manhattan. From the brunch menu we order the scallop crudo with jalapeño ice, lemon and black olive. It was such a deliciously fresh starter! The crab risotto that followed was even more mesmerizing. It doesn’t get creamier than this. Upon recommendation, we go with the braised short rib with chimichurri sauce. Dutch restaurants don’t typically serve braised short ribs, which is a shame because it’s so good! For dessert we order the coconut trifle, sticky toffee pudding with sweet potato leaves (loved this) and Pink lady apple tarte tatin.
It put us in a food coma for sure but we would gladly go through it all over again!
