CT Coffee and Coconuts

CT Coffee and Coconuts Amsterdam Hotspot

On my search for the best coffee place in Amsterdam, I stumbled on this little humungous coffee hotspot in Amsterdam’s de Pijp the other day, CT Coffee and Coconuts. CT Coffee and Coconuts opened last November in Amsterdam and replaces the old Ceintuur Theater. With three-stories high, it’s one of the biggest coffee spots I’ve seen. And the best thing: they serve young fresh coconuts.

CT Coffee & Coconuts is filled with all kinds of people. You have your youngsters sitting in one corner and your savvy hipsters in the other. And the first thing you’ll notice about CT Coffee and Coconuts is how incredibly big it is. In fact, it’s friggin’ huge (that’s what she said). The interior is a beautifully structured Scandinavian minimal but with an edge. The concrete floor, red brick walls, wooden interior decorations all around and light hitting every nook and cranny in this spacious coffee place. I looked around and imagined something like this being my dream house one day. I wanted to stay here, I wanted to live here. I nearly yelled that everybody had to get out, to claim my new living space. Again, the best thing has to be the fact that they have fresh young coconuts on the menu. You rarely find a place in Amsterdam (or the Netherlands for that matter) where they serve you fresh coconuts, let alone at a coffee place, a place you’d least expect to have coconuts. And surprisingly enough, the concept works. I saw more people with coconuts than I saw with coffee in their hands, a big yay imo. This comes from a coconut fiend (hey, Asian here) so I’m a little biased. Surely you can get coconuts in the Netherlands as well but they’re not much cheaper than when you order one at CT. The whole place has an energetic vibe going on that makes you want to stay all day. The menu is incredibly diverse with sandwiches, sweets, beers, wines. We order a flat white, a cappuccino and a fresh young coconut right away, the New York deli sandwich with pastrami, Vinkentaler cheese and caramelised cabbage, a Madeleine and banana cake with chocolate, pecans and raisins. All amazingly delicious. They have a breakfast and dinner menu as well. The menus feature sausages from the renowned Amsterdam sausage maker team Brandt & Levie and beers from the boys at the ever-growing Oedipus Brewing as well. This makes CT Coffee and Coconuts a bit Scandinavian, somewhat Asian/tropical/Pacific, a little New York-ish as well, but every bit Amsterdam.
