One of the many challenges a woman has to face every morning, is concealing an imperfect skin.
When I look at photos of myself of a decade ago, my skin seemed almost flawless. I only started using foundation (or BB creams more) when I was 29 but before that the magic seemed to just be in my skincare routine. A simple toner and day cream was all I needed. That, and of course a healthy diet, loads of water (water does a lot to improve your skin, by miles, honestly) and a good night’s sleep.
Nowadays, with the business I’m running, the lack of sleep as a result thereof, and age surely, my skin needs a bit more tending to. My skincare routine is a lot more elaborate than it used to be and finding the right skin match in foundations is something I’m sure loads of women struggle with!
In this post I’m sharing how I, as a 31-year-old, deal with my skin on a daily basis. Let’s go!
Often underestimated by women, but in my opinion an unmissable step to a clear and healthy skin. Skincare is food for the skin. Unless you’re living in a tropical climate, your skin is never going to get the hydration it needs. So skincare is a must and skincare essentials contain properties that can help improve, nourish and strengthen the skin.
Being a Lancôme Ambassador gives me the opportunity to try out different products that fit my skin’s needs. Every person has different skin and therefore different problems and different products to use. I have a combination skin – my skin has oily and dry parts (the most difficult to deal with I’m told).
Cleanser & toner
My current routine starts with a double cleansing – with the Eau Fraîche Douceur (a micellar cleansing water) and the Tonique Confort (a soothing toner). Nothing feels better than a fresh skin in the morning. I use a cotton pad for both steps.
I continue with the a serum. The new Advanced Génifique Sensitive is what I’m using currently to battle the extreme winter weather. With loads of projects and therefore stress building up, my skin reacts to it with redness and sensitivity. The serum comes with a booster of ferulic acid and pure vitamin E, which you inject into the bottle before use. The properties are meant to calm distressed skin. I apply the Energie de Vie eye serum immediately after. The pair works like extra hours of sleep in my skincare routine.
To complete my daily routine, I use the Visionnaire cream. A rich day cream that keeps my skin hydrated all day.
With a fully prepped skin, it’s time to prep and conceal any skin imperfections I have.
I start by using a primer. The La Base Pro smoothes out any fine lines I may have on my skin. I skip this step when I’m in a hurry in the morning (most mornings), but I find that a good primer goes a long way with your foundation!
There are women who conceal last, but I like to go in with the concealer first. I don’t have that dark circles under my eyes so I usually skip this step. But on formal occasions (or for shoots), a concealer is a must.
When it comes to foundations, Lancôme has a great variety of colors to choose from. My skin has a golden undertone so I always go with a yellow-toned foundation. Finding the right color match is always a hassle but with Lancôme it was clear that I’m a Lancôme #3 girl – this is my Lancôme skin color number for all foundation products. It’s the color that blends into my skin flawlessly. On days I need more coverage and long-wear, I go with the Teint Idole Ultra Wear. On days I’m running short on time, the Teint Idole Ultra Cushion is my savior. However, nowadays I find myself reaching for the Teint Idole Ultra Foundation stick more. This foundation stick makes applying foundation much easier. I apply the foundation in stripes on my face and just blend it out with my finger tops. The warmth of your skin melts the foundation so you don’t need a brush or beauty blender. It’s oil free and therefore perfect for those with an oily or combination skin.
Lastly, lips. I’ll save my eye and face routine for another post as I really want to focus on achieving a healthy skin look. The last step is to have healthy looking lips. We often forget about the lips. But chapped lips can make even the healthiest face look dreary and dull. Every morning before applying my make up, I use a lip balm to moisturize and nourish my lips. This way when I’m done doing my face routine, my lips will be ready for any lipstick or gloss I want to use. Currently I’m using the L’Absolu Rouge La Base Rôsy – a smooth lip balm that hydrates and acts as the perfect base. When I’m feeling extra cheeky that day, I’ll use the L’Absolu Gloss Plumper (because who doesn’t want more plump lips?!).
There you have it. My skin secrets for an almost flawless base.
My skin is not edited or retouched in these photos by the way. I wanted this to be an editorial showing my skin as is using these products.
May this inspire you to look into your skin routine as well in the new year!
