Winter is coming! Alright, I’m kind of growing tired of the Game of Thrones catchphrase (especially since we’ve been hearing it for seven years straight now). But winter is coming and for that we’d love to transition to darker, more muted tones.
I don’t know about you guys, but with the cold weather now, I’m all about dressing up in the warmest knits, oversized sweaters and long boots to keep my legs warm.
Makeup-wise I always like darker, more muted and neutral looks. I find it suits the cold weather (and my fall/winter clothing) better!
Here’s my favorite lipsticks for this season!
Let’s talk red
While I love going for neutrals in the winter, I cannot abandon my reds. My reds are my companion, any season. The transition from fall to winter makeup always makes me want to opt for slightly darker colors instead. So for my reds, I’m going for a deep red like the Chanel nightfall lipstick, or NARS Under my thumb matte lip pigment.
If I really want to pop on a brighter red, I love the NARS lipstick in Annabella, or this new luscious red from the YSL Dazzling Lights holiday collection. To line my lips for any red pigments, I use the NARS lip liner in Holy red.
Let’s talk pink
While reds are often reserved for more special occasions, pinks are perfect for almost everything. From day-wear to night-wear to a Sunday brunch with the family. It’s a much more subtle look than a bright red.
For pink lipsticks more suited for every-day wear, I recommend the Estée Lauder Pure color envy in Above it. This sheer lipstick is my go-to pick for business meetings. The Ilia Beauty In my room is an elegant lipstick, perfect for business-wear as well!
Let’s talk red neutral
While I usually opt for reds and pinks, I do love more muted brown tones as well on some days. Especially days when I have slightly heavier made up eyes, I tend to go with more natural or nude colors. The NARS powermatte lip pigment in American woman is an absolute favorite among many beauty lovers. It’s a gorgeous neutral and nude pinkish brown, almost mauve pigment. I now swear by this lip product. To give my lips a glossy finish, I add the Smashbox lipgloss in Petal metal on top of it. For a deeper brown, the Tom Ford in Romy is a pretty rich brown lipstick.
