One of my latest discoveries in the skincare department is the La Mer skincare line.
I tried out their Skincolor de La Mer foundation line last year and was blown away by the foundation that felt light on my skin but provided me with amazing coverage. I’ve somehow always had the idea that La Mer was a brand more oriented towards senior women. It’s certainly in a higher price range than other brands and perhaps it used to be aimed at a more aged category. It isn’t anymore today though. With the introduction of new products and sleeker and bolder packaging, La Mer is trying to reach a younger generation as well.
I don’t consider myself that young anymore though!
Two of their current bestsellers from the new lines are the Treatment Lotion and the Revitalizing Hydrating Serum. Of course I can’t discuss La Mer skincare without at least reviewing their signature product – the one product known to all in the beauty world – the Crème de La Mer.
The Treatment Lotion
The Treatment Lotion isn’t a cleanser or tonic. It’s a lotion that makes your skin absorb creams and other products better. It is best applied after using a cleanser and before you apply your serum or moisturizer. What I love about this product is that it preps your skin for the next steps.
You know how sometimes you buy a product upon a recommendation from a friend, who is raving about the product, but then you try it and it feels completely different? It may be because you have a different skin type. If you have a dry or sensitive skin type, your skin may not be receptive to regular moisturizers. Sometimes, no matter how good a moisturizer is, if your skin doesn’t absorb products well, it’s not going to help much. And a lotion like this could help the moisturizer seep through better.
I tried this lotion over the course of March. March started warm here but got colder in the end. I have a combination skin with some dry patches. I applied the lotion mostly on the dry areas and found that the moisturizer I was using (which I usually use in combination with my Bobbi Brown Nourishing Milk on dry patches) was perfectly sufficient without the use of other products. To conclude, it’s an expensive product, but if you find yourself using layers of moisturizing products, you may want to look into this because this can change your regimen!
The Revitalizing Hydrating Serum
Of all beauty skincare products, serums are probably my favorite. You only need a few drops but they pack a lot of moisture! I had high expectations of the Revitalizing Hydrating Serum, mainly because I had already tried it in the store on my hands and it felt super smooth. But the skin on your hand is different than the skin on your face. I tried this in March as well. I’ve used my fair share of serums and of all brands, this one, along with the Lancôme Energie de Vie serum, are in my top skincare products.
Why use a serum? Isn’t a moisturizer enough?
It can be, depending on how good your skin is. The best beauty advice you can ever get is to always stay hydrated during the day. On days I’m drinking the recommended amount of 2L a day, I know my skin is at its best. Hydrating your body from the inside is always best. But I’m not drinking that much water a day anyway and I know you probably aren’t either! This is where a serum comes in. A serum has a thinner formula, making it easier to penetrate the upper layers of your skin, and it reaches further into your skin than a regular moisturizer does. The effect of this is that your skin feels plump, rosy and ‘alive’. It’s almost like an inner hydration.
The Crème de La Mer
And now, on to the moment supreme! Is the Crème de La Mer worth the hype? Before I go into that, it’s worth saying that the cream is one of the top rated skincare products in the world. It has been for ages and it doesn’t reach that reputation for no reason. Now, the moisturizer comes at between EUR 170 – 300 (depending on the size) – which is a steep price. You can buy a lot of moisturizers with that money!
Knowing that it cost that much, I was careful with how much I scooped up (because this is one of those moisturizers you’re going to want to scoop up and not ruin with your fingers!). The texture is thick – probably the thickest cream I own at the moment. It’s buttery smooth. You warm up the product until it becomes transparent and then you gently press the product on to your skin.
I have to say, it is worth the hype. I did feel that in the period I was using the cream, my skin was much smoother and hydrated. The cream is said to prevent wrinkles in time. I haven’t used it long enough to be able to confirm that. But having used it in a month where I was working a lot of late hours, I was amazed at how well it prevented me from looking tired and aged. I do think the cream is of best value for women who struggle with a lot of skin problems. Because the cream has the properties that tighten the skin, relieves stress signs, reduce wrinkles.
To me, the obvious changes were the reduced pores and a much smoother skin!
I hope this was helpful! This was an honest review from my side and took me some time to write because of the testing period. If you have a product you’d like me to try, leave a comment down below and I’ll try to include it in my next discoveries posts! Thank you for reading (and sharing is caring)!
