I have a sweet tooth. Everywhere I go, I have a need to satisfy my craving for all things sweet. Which is what led me to Maître Choux. The choux pastry patisserie in South Kensington is a sweet tooth heaven. Led by three Michelin star chef Joakim Prat, it is one of few patisseries in the world currently specializing in éclairs and choux pastries.
And let’s all be honest, macarons are so 2012!
We start with a box of colorful éclairs. From an ultra rich chocolate éclair (made from >60% chocolates) to the intense Persian pistachio éclair topped with candied pistachios and meringue, and the light and delicate Spanish raspberry éclair, with sun-soaked raspberries, it is really hard to choose a favorite! A definite eye-catcher has to be the hazelnut and milk chocolate éclair, a milk chocolate crème patisserie made from homemade praline and hazelnuts, coated with a stunning gold dust.
If I really had to pick a favorite, it’d be the bright red raspberry éclair though. Filled with a beautiful Tahitian vanilla cream and raspberry puree mixture, it creates a lovely balance between fruity and creamy. No birthday cakes for me from – I’m serving this éclair from now on!
And as if éclairs aren’t enough for you to indulge in, there’s also choux and chouquettes (the latter of which surprised me most – the crunch on the chouquette is all you need in life, trust me).
