Le sigh, it’s November already. Let’s face it, the only thing we like about November is the gorgeous fiery red color of leaves all around (in October it’s only a faint orange and by December it’s all dead). Besides that, it’s just cold, rainy and windy. Which, if you live in London, is nothing new. Before I know it I’ll have to switch my heels for non-slippery flats. I almost took a tumble at the station the other day. I’m waiting for the day they come out with fierce-looking, comfortable – mind you, heels with grips under the soles that are even suitable for climbing the snowy mountains of like, say, Everest. Another idea of mine that I’m sure will save mankind in the long run.
I’m trying out something new this month. Every 1st of the month I’m doing a calendar segment with things to do and see in Amsterdam and/or London. Here’s my November events list!
GIN Neo Bistro This new joint opened last month in Amsterdam and is the new buzz around town. The restaurant is innovating and daring and with a five-course menu for under EUR 50, this is Amsterdam’s new hotspot.
Jaimie van Heije’s 007 Alright, technically not in Amsterdam, but it’s not that far off. Chef Jaimie van Heije has created a special menu in his restaurant to honor Bond and the new Bond movie Spectre. Head over to his restaurant in Ouderkerk a/d Amstel for a 007 evening.
Pand10 This pop-up bar serves 10.000 bottles of (specialty) beer. Don’t fancy beer? Don’t worry – they serve gin & tonics and other drinks as well! Fun fact: the pop-up bar closes after the 10.000th bottle of beer is served. Which will not take long I’m sure, so what are you waiting for?
Hosokawa Ramen Restaurant Hosokawa is jumping on the ramen train, which is great news, since there aren’t a lot of restaurants serving ramen yet in the Netherlands, let alone good ramen. Drop by during lunch for some ramen or a bento box!
Detox Kitchen Bible Feel like cooking more? Recently the Detox Kitchen Bible, by British chef Lily Simpson and food and health expert Rob Hobson, hit stores in the Netherlands. The kitchen bible is filled with healthy (and delicious) recipes!
Balmain x H&M Balmaination – it’s all people in the fashion industry talk about. The much anticipated collection drops in stores on 5 November. I’m sharing a few tips on how to score your H&M collab goodies – stay tuned for that!
Museum Night Amsterdam On 7 November Amsterdam’s museums are open to the public all night. Order your tickets in advance and visit as many museums on this night (and ride the public transportation for free as well!).
Amsterdam Light Festival The festival always attracts lots of visitors. Returning this month on 28 November (until 17 January 2016), expect some great light installations. And photographers – get your cameras and tripods ready!
IDFA The International Documentary Festival Amsterdam starts on 18 November (until the 29th). The ticket sale starts on 9 November (6 November for friends) – tickets are EUR 10.
Traveler’s Notebooks Stationary enthusiasts, visit a pop-up Traveler’s Factory store in the Miscellaneous store in Amsterdam. On 7 – 8 November you can create your own notebook with the help of the Traveler’s Factory’s Japanese craftsmen during the Spiral Ring Notebook event!
Lord of the Rings Symphony On 9 November the New Romanian Symphonic Orchestra and Choir will play the Symphony, as composed by Howard Shore, at the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam. If there’s one thing I really miss about Amsterdam it’s the Royal Concertgebouw – sad I’m missing this particular show! Order the last tickets asap!
Taste of London Sample dishes from London’s top restaurants at Taste of London Winter from 19 November (until 22 November). Order tickets in advance for £15!
Spectre Cocktail at the Savoy Going to see Spectre this month? Why not drop by the Savoy’s American Bar for a special Spectre Cocktail!
Yauatcha Supreme Saturdays Yauatcha has launched a new menu recently. Head over to Yauatcha on Saturdays from 12pm – 5pm for a luxurious lunch menu with a cocktail for £49 per person!
London Jazz Festival Starting from Friday 13 November (until the 22th), the City’s jazz festival treats fans to a whole lotta jazz!
Guy Fawkers / Bonfire Night On 5 November, head out to Battersea Park to watch the London skyline become ablaze with fireworks!
Christmas Lights It’s a happening every year when the Christmas lights are turned on. The lights will lit in Oxford Street from 1 November and Regent Street from 15 November!
