When you’re in London, and you’re looking for a place to have great sushi and delicious cocktails in Soho, look no further than Oliver Maki. Located in the city centre, it’s a place you’ll find yourself easily after a day of shopping. The place is busy, especially during lunch hours, but pop in after lunch (and ask to go upstairs) and you’ll enjoy some peace and quiet time in the bustling city. Ordering goes through an iPad, with mouthwatering photos drawing your attention to one dish after another. We started with the filo shrimp tempura – a crispy dish served with umeboshi – and a salmon, tuna and avocado tartar. The dishes are Japanese but with a twist (and totally instagrammable). The Oliver Maki is one of the chef’s signature maki’s, served with a variety of toppings (truffle mayo on sushi, anyone?). The sushi jewels are presented in a layered box and include beautifully smoked nigiri as well as some beet maki’s (how’s that for a change). The unagi kabayaki chirashi was my favorite though. The rice is served with a fresh lemon-y sauce – it went so well with the unagi. And then of course there was dessert – a beautiful matcha tiramisu. When I posted the photo on instagram, I received loads of messages asking what it was and where I had it. At Oliver Maki you guys, only at Oliver Maki.
