Restaurant Zuid is the latest restaurant to open from chef and restaurateur Michiel van der Eerde. His restaurants Baut (now Baut Paradijs) and C are hotspots where young and hip Amsterdam go to for food, drinks and a good party in the weekends. There’s a vibe present in all of Michiel’s restaurants. Laid-back, casual and a certain thank-god-it’s-friday atmosphere.
I was curious to see where Zuid would fall between the two. It certainly has the same informal character of Baut and the interior has the mood of a Dutch ‘bruin cafe’ but definitely a more elevated and fitting design for Amsterdam Zuid.
The menu features classic dishes like ceviche, steak tartare, a bisque and burrata salad with figs. Dishes that make it the perfect spot for lunch or a summer supper on the terrace!
We absolutely loved the freshness in the ceviche and steak tartare, the latter of which is a departure from the creamy steak tartare served at Baut (with foie gras and bacon mayonnaise). This is a more light and tangy one (which I think I love even better).
Our winner of the day had to be the dessert of white chocolate spheres and peaches (see below). Such an elegant dish!
We wish the team at Zuid good luck and we’ll be back soon!
