On my recent trip to Beijing, I had to visit the Rosewood Hotel. I fell in love with the hotel on my previous trip to Beijing a couple of years ago and was curious to see if I’d feel the same this time. As a frequent traveller, you come across quite a lot of hotels and you start to understand who you are as a traveller and what you’re looking for. To me, of all hotels I’ve seen so far, Rosewood comes closest to what I think a luxury or jetset traveller longs for in a hotel.
First of all, the design of the hotel is pure modern elegance. There’s lots of warm and dark tones in the hotel, giving it a rich and luxurious ambience.
Second, the service is second to none. We stayed in the Club deluxe room, where access to the Manor club also comes with an exclusive service of having a personal butler attending to your needs. We took this opportunity to order tea to our room every night!
Third, what I always look for in a hotel, is good food. And good food isn’t always a priority in hotels, not even luxury hotels. But at Rosewood, there’s loads of food outlets that I recommend. One being Country Kitchen – a restaurant serving a variety of traditional Chinese cuisines (previous and new review). And the second, being Bistro B, where breakfast is served (expect loads of dim sum, buns, noodles, soups, congee, fruits, pastries and continental breakfast as well). And if you’re in a Club room, the Manor club lounge serves some of the best canapés!
And fourth, and this is really the bonus – the spa and swimming pool are what makes the hotel one of the most premium hotels in the world. The swimming pool is large, there’s a lovely tropical setting, there’s a sizable jacuzzi (where I spent most of my nights) and the lounge beds are so big and comfortable I sometimes found myself dozing off!
lf these photos are giving an impression that it is okay to stay inside a hotel all day – this is the kind of hotel where you will probably want to stay in more than go out. Especially in the period I was there (it was like 35 degrees Celsius every day!). Don’t stay in though, because Beijing has so much to offer! But I agree – this is a place like home. There’s comfort, there’s style, there’s a luxury to a level I know not many luxury hotels are currently offering. And there’s a sense of home. Which makes this one of the finest hotels you can ever stay in.
