Walking into Sketch in London is like entering something of a dream world. Its lush pink velvet chairs and the gorgeous rose gold bar and details are a sight for sore eyes. No one leaves Sketch without taking at least a dozen or so photos. I have an excuse – lugging around a big camera like mine does make it somewhat more acceptable to shoot around like a maniac. Or at least, that’s what I tell myself.
I met up with Abi from The Apartment for an afternoon tea and a quick catch up session. The Apartment is one of those brilliant ideas where bloggers, brands and creativity come together in a small space in London to create amazing content (and to chill and relax of course). I admire Abi for her innovative ideas and overall inspiring outlook on life and what better way to catch up than over sweets and Earl Grey tea (because all other teas are inferior – we both agree on this).
The afternoon tea at Sketch starts with an assortment of finger sandwiches. From a delicious smoked salmon with tarragon cream sandwich to a mozzarella and pesto panini and a grilled ricotta, cucumber and aubergine sandwich… they’re beautiful sandwiches one by one. Which is a surprise – sandwiches at afternoon teas rarely are interesting (focus is mostly put on the petit gateaus). An absolute stunner (and my favorite of the afternoon) is the quail egg sandwich with mayonnaise and caviar. I could eat this all day, errr day. From the trolley we are served a battenburg cake of chocolate, vanilla and caramel and raspberry, passion fruit and coconut. The petit gateaus include a plum tartlet, praline choux (so good), marshmallows and a fig and hibiscus cheesecake. Of course, no afternoon tea is complete without scones – served with Cornish clotted cream and a fig and strawberry jam.
