It seems odd that, in all the years that I’ve been blogging, I’ve never written about accessories. Even though I’m obsessed with it. I love my rings, cuffs, necklaces not so much but that’s just because it’s never that interesting (and I wasn’t a fan of the choker) – and then there’s earrings. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been scavenging the world (and by world I mean shops) for earrings. I have gathered a decent collection of statement earrings over the years – even Iris Apfel would have been proud. Here are some of my favorites and how you can rock statement earrings!
One of my favorite pairs is this golden flower earring. It’s huge (K is never a fan when I wear this) but it’s such an eye-catcher. There has not been a day I’ve been wearing these that no one has commented on them. The best thing about an artsy ear piece like this, is that you can wear it with basically anything. A basic white T, a turtle neck – the only rule is to not let your clothing overshadow the earrings.
The cute statement earring is anything with comics or illustrations. When I saw this lipstick earring, I thought it was the cutest thing ever. I knew I would only be rocking them a few times but I still couldn’t pass up on them. Pair cute statement earrings with a simple sweater or one of those embellished rock shirts you have lying around in your closet. What you want to do is create a contrast between cute and edgy.
Which brings me to one of my favorite pieces: the edgy statement earring. This edgy crystal spiked ear cuff is the subject of every discussion whenever I wear this. Ear cuffs were a trend two years ago so I haven’t worn it much since. But when I do wear it, I love to pair it with a chic white blouse to offset the fierceness of the piece. Contrasts people, contrasts!
K always argues that I just cannot wear simple earrings. Which may be true – why would you when you can have such stunning pieces instead? For classy looks like cocktail parties or business events, I like to stick with a classic but colorful drop down earring – but in larger form. Wear this with your little black dress or evening gown and you’ll be the belle of the ball.
Last but not least, there’s the ultimate statement earring. The one that makes jaws drop when you enter the room. I don’t even remember where I got these but it was love at first sight. Sometimes, bigger is better. And this one is huge. The only way to justify the beauty of such earring, is to pair it with extravagance. Sequined dresses, furs, your finest wardrobe extravaganza. Sure your ears are going to hurt magnificently the morning (and probably days) after, but you’ll have been a queen for one night.
