When it comes to make up, I am obsessed with natural make up looks. I like beauty looks naturally flawless with a subtle glow here and there and a pop of color on my lips. That’s all I need to get out of the house (sometimes a soft wing).
Flawless looking skin is the trickiest part of all though. Unless you’ve found a way to cheat your way out of aging or you have perfect skin (for which I will envy you!), you’re going to have to do a little more than just prep your skin with moisturizers (although, never underestimate this step).
1./ Prep & prime
To achieve flawless skin, first apply a face primer. This is one of the most underestimated steps but can be a world of difference. Primers help you smooth out the imperfections you have on your skin, making it easier to apply your next steps. Plus it minimizes your pores. The primer I’m using is the Smashbox photo finish primer and their primer oil. They’re widely regarded as one of the best skin preps in the beauty industry.
The next step is to conceal your imperfections. A concealer is typically a lighter shade to neutralize any discoloring and blemishes you may have on your skin. Any dark circles you have under your eyes, dark spots or redness – go over it with your concealer. I have been loving the Skincolor de La Mer concealer.
Once you’ve concealed your blemishes, you can start applying your foundation. Determine what kind of look you want to go for. Do you prefer a dewy finish or do you like things matte? And how thick do you want the coverage to be. For a no-make-up make up look, BB creams are great. If you want to go for flawless looking skin, I’d suggest going with a foundation that provides more coverage and has moisturizing properties. The latter is something most luxury brand foundations already have but always test it first. The Lancôme Teint Idole is a foundation that provides both coverage and hydration and it’s a long-wear foundation. It’s perfect for any girlboss who wants to look flawless all day without having to worry about the next touch up!
After your foundation, apply a powder to achieve that silky smooth skin look. A powder also sets all of your make up. Don’t like the matte texture of a powder? There are setting sprays as well that work the same way but give you a slightly more dewy finish. I’m currently using a setting powder by Estée Lauder (and their setting spray in the summer).
The last step is to maintain that flawless look all day. A long-wear foundation may get you through a regular day in the office, but no make up is fool proof to stand against irregular circumstances, such as rain (which isn’t that irregular if you’re living in the Netherlands), heat or sweat etc. You could take your whole make up bag with you but if that’s not your thing (it’s way too much of a hassle for me), Bobbi Brown has a great retouching wand that corrects your imperfections. I always pop the wand in my bag so that I have a correcting stick with me on-the-go. This way I’m sure my skin will look flawless every day!
