July 2018

I don’t know about you guys, but in the summer I tend to wear the brightest of colours. From clothing to make up to styling off everything with the most vibrant accessories. The brighter the better! Here’s three easy steps to rocking a colour poppin’ lips!

1. Prep your lips

Before you put on any lip colours, you better be sure to prep your lips. Not only will it nourish your lips, it will also prevent your lips from chapping the next day. A smoother lip surface is easier to apply lip colours to – and it looks better! The best way to prepare your lips for a day of lipstick wear, is by prepping your lips the night before with a lip balm. Apply your favourite lip balm before you go to sleep. Favourites in the beauty world are the Caudalie lip conditioner or the Burt’s bees conditioning lip balm. If you want to really go all out and spoil your lips with a soothing treatment, we recommend going with a lip mask like the Laneige lip mask or the Kiehl’s buttermask lip treatment. You’d be surprised to see the effect the next morning!

2. Line it

The first thing you want to do before you apply your lip colour, is a lip liner. Not only will this ensure a perfect application, it will also make your lipstick last longer (or at least ensure an even application all throughout the day). Every lipstick collection comes with a lip liner. Popular lip liners are Urban Decay’s glide-on pencil and MAC’s lip pencil. But of course you can just stick with the brand of your lipstick or tint – there are no rules!

As for the application – the trick is to line your lips so that you retain your natural lip shape. Go over the lines of your lip with your liner and adjust if necessary. If you’re not used to lining your lips, start by lining the outer corners, moving your way up to your cupid’s bow.

If you want to increase the shape of your lips – don’t overline or overdraw too much. Line your lips slightly over your natural lip line and adjust with a concealer if necessary.

3. Get ready for some colour!

Every woman has her favourite lip colours she sticks to. Whether it’s lipsticks, lip glosses or lip tints, there’s a range of products you know works best on your lips. And the same goes for colour. This summer, the beauty trend is all about bright pinks and reds.

YSL has some of the most vibrant lipsticks this season. From bright satin-like fuchsia shades to matte cherry reds. If you prefer liquid formulas, Lancôme‘s new Lacquer Lipstick collection is for you. These sticks glide on your lips and leave a shiny finish that is perfect for the summer. For long-lasting lip colours, NARS is your fit. Apply the NARS Lip Cover for a long-wear and full-coverage colour.

Last but not least, for those who feel like splurging and treating themselves, there’s Tom Ford lipsticks. These babies come in a variety of shimmery and satin shades (and how cute is the packaging).

After you’ve applied your lip tint, don’t forget to blot and reapply to create an even application!

Good luck!
