Cocktail lovers can rejoice with the opening of new bar The Tailor. The Tailor is part of the NH Collection Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky (we reviewed Grand Cafe Krasnapolsky yesterday) and it pays tribute to the history of the hotel. The bar features tailoring details such as a measuring tape engraved in the bar, scissors, chalk linings, pins and sewing thimbles as lights hanging from the ceiling.
The Tailor’s menu features many cocktails from classics such as the Old Fashioned, Dark’n Stormy and a Warsaw Mule so you’ll have plenty to choose from. All cocktails come with cute hashtags such as #Tailoredforadventures (hey, it’s all in the details right?).
Common Journey: Krasnapolsky liqueur, Wynand Fockink Oude Jenever, Krasnapolsky orange bitters
The Tailor also features a signature cocktails list created by Tess Posthumus. Tess is a god of spirits (as I wrote here and here) and has a list of awards and accomplishments on her name. She’s pretty much the definition of a #girlboss and her concoctions are pure, well balanced and most of all fun.
We start with the Common Journey, a jenever-based cocktail with orange bitters, a smooth cocktail that makes you crave for some salty cheeses with herbs.
The Traveling Rose is a pure delight – it’s sweet and fruity and it comes with a perfumed bottle that you’re meant to spray on the glass (and all over you – in my case). I reckon this cocktail will be an absolute hit in the summer, especially with the ladies.
The Cuban Mist was our favorite though: a cognac-based cocktail that brings you straight to the Caribbeans. The cocktail is smoked before serving, bringing out the rounded flavor of the cocktail.
Don’t forget to order from the Food & Bites menu and ask the bartenders for the best combinations to go with your cocktails. Food and wine pairings have been a thing for decades now – it’s time we had a more proper menu to go with our cocktails!
36h cured pork belly with pickles
Seared bavet steak with passion fruit dressing
Seared scallops with mango, basil, sambal and bonito flakes
