When you get to travel often and you get to visit the most stunning hotels in the world, you’re bound to run into a place that is completely tailored to your taste. I’m talking about the decor, the design, the styling, the service, the restaurant, the room, the views (!), and every tiny detail you only notice as a frequent traveller. The moment K and I walked into our Upper House studio, we were both taken aback by the gorgeous interior. Designer Andrew Fu’s aim was to create an oasis of peace and quiet above the bustling city. Materials used are natural materials such as bamboo and the studios are left open and spacious. Large windows are your eyes toward the rest of the world. But really all you want to do is enjoy the modern luxury within your studio. A moment of serenity is made even more complete when you do the art tour inside the hotel. From sculptures in sandstone and ceramics in your room to Hiroshiwata Sawada’s Rise, a metal wall sculpture that runs along the atrium at the Upper House.
Our favorite part at the hotel was The Lawn, a rooftop terrace lounge, completely secluded, surrounded by Hong Kong’s amazing architecture. We spent the afternoon here with a book and for a moment forgot we were in one of the crowded places on the earth. On Sunday morning, we signed up for a yoga class at The Lawn. Even if you’re an inexperienced yogi, there’s something naturally peaceful when you do yoga on a rooftop space in-between high rises.
CAFE GRAY DELUXE
Located on the 49th floor, Café Gray Deluxe is a restaurant that offers the most stunning views of Victoria Harbour. The restaurant serves modern European cuisine and is headed by chef Gray Kunz.
8:00 am Breakfast is served. From truffle scrambled eggs on butter croissant to a bacon egg crêpe with gruyère cheese,.. you’re starting your day fresh, fulfilled and happy.
8:00 pm Start your night with a cocktail (I recommend the earl gray martini) and enjoy the restaurant’s finest dishes. And don’t forget to leave some room for the desserts!
When I’m on the road, traveling, the thing I look most for is a little peace and quiet. A place where I can feel the energy from the city around me but at the same time enjoy the tranquility. Which perfectly sums up what the Upper House is to me. A balance between life’s lively vibes and inner peace.
