Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam recently launched their new summer afternoon tea menu, themed Summer Beach. We’ve enjoyed several afternoon tea editions at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. From the honey-themed afternoon tea in 2016, to the playful tongue-in-cheek menu in 2017 and the circus-themed afternoon tea in 2018. The chefs at Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam know how to transform the summer afternoon tea menus every year.
The Summer beach afternoon tea features a tiered carousel with a delightful combination of savoury and sweet bites. On the savoury side, we start off with a light bed of smoked salmon with cream cheese and pistou, a seaweed cracker with a pearly gelée of goat’s cheese and sea buckthorn and a sandwich of seafood sandwich with pickles. It’s a light and fresh start to the afternoon tea and leaves you desiring more.
The mid-point beach ball, playfully placed next to a beach chair, is a light masala cracker – airy and crunchy. On the sweet side of the carousel, we find an eclair with zesty lemon meringue – one of my favourites from the menu! We move on to the chocolatey coconut of piña colada and an exotic pearl in shell financier with rum, mint and lime. Only to end with the cute red octopus of blueberry cupcake and Ruby chocolate.
Of course no afternoon tea ends without scones. And when you reach this point, you better have enough room left for two. Both the salted caramel scones (a first for us to try) and the vanilla scone were the definition of perfect. Light, airy and fluffy – and perfectly paired with the Devonshire cream.
