Wherever you live, I hope you guys are enjoying good, humid temperatures. Here in Amsterdam it has been cold and the low temperature is leaving dry patches all over my skin.
It’s definitely the most expensive season of the year.
Here are some of the products I am currently using to keep my skin moisturized!
What you want to start off with, is a good moisturizer. If you don’t have one already, pay a visit to your local beauty store and ask for advice. At the counter there’s always a beauty expert who is willing to help you choose the right moisturizer. Choose one that fits your skin type. I have a combination skin and currently I’m using Clinique’s pep-start moisturizer. It is a rich cream that keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day, without having it turn your face into an oily surface. And it comes in the cutest yellow packaging (how does this not lift your winter spirit?).
But before I pop on my moisturizer, I apply a serum first. A serum is like a highly concentrated moisturizer. Because of the watery formula, it sinks into the skin better. During the summer, this is probably the first step I skip but with the cold weather I find that I’m reaching for a serum more often than a moisturizer. I’m using the Chanel Blue Serum. This serum gives your skin a radiant glow and smooth finish as well. It makes your skin forget it’s winter (which is what you ultimately want in a winter product). It leaves a dewy finish but I quite like that. In fact, I don’t leave the house without putting the serum on first anymore!
And on those days it’s extra cold (which is now), I use the Bobbi Brown Nourishing milk. This was one of my best discoveries of 2016 (and I will probably include this in my favorite products video soon). The milky and creamy substance enhances the skin within no time. It’s a miracle worker. Previous years I would always find it hard to apply foundation because of dry patches on my skin. But this cream is so rich that it repairs all dryness. I use it on other areas as well – but it is expensive so it’s going to be a splurge!
Part of my evening routine, is the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I pop this on before I go to sleep. I used to believe it was an unnecessary step but applying this serum before you sleep let’s you wake up with the smoothest skin.
Last but not least, for the winter you need a cleanser that is up to the task of cleansing your face as well us moisturizing your skin. Cleansers tend to leave your skin drier than usually which is the last thing you want in the winter. My favorite of late is the L’Occitane Foaming Cleanser with shea butter. At only 20 Euros it is a steal. The shea butter gives your skin an ultra rich hydration and it makes your skin buttery soft.
How do you keep your skin hydrated in the winter? And what are your favorite products to use?
