Last week we went on a little sea journey with La Mer for World Oceans Day. La Mer is active in protecting ocean habitats. And to empower ocean conservation projects and wildlife, La Mer has launched the Blue Heart Fund.
I love La Mer as a beauty brand. Their Crème de La Mer is without a doubt one of the holy grail skincare items of women around the world. And I’m obsessed with their serum and foundation. Seeing a beauty brand get so involved in the preservation of nature and wildlife is inspiring.
One of the key ingredients of La Mer is sea kelp, the harvest of which takes place twice a year. So a vital ocean is important.
For the occasion we headed out to Vuurtoreneiland. Vuurtoreneiland is a concept that launched several years ago where an island in the Ijmeer (less than one hour away from Amsterdam) was transformed from an old military base to a restaurant and farm. Restaurant ingredients are either farmed on the island or are fresh produce from local farmers. The perfect match for Blue Oceans Day in my opinion. The island is being preserved by the restaurant owners as much as possible – and there are plans to refurbish the lighthouse as well in the future. The chefs were tasked with the impossible mission to create a menu heroing sea kelp – something they did beautifully if you ask me!
